Kristy Scott Gilpin turned herself in to the East Baton Rouge Parish jail Monday morning on a felony cost of cruelty to juveniles.
As we reported final month, Jamisha Augustine, mom of a six-year-old woman with a milk allergy, stated her daughter was pressured to wash up feces at Rollins Place Elementary in January after having an accident at college brought on by milk ingestion. A felony arrest warrant was issued after investigators carried out interviews and reviewed the college’s surveillance video.
Ms Augustine described her interplay with college officers on the time:
I stated what was the purpose of creating her clear that up? Do y’all have janitors? She stated they do have janitors, however she wanted a type of self-discipline. There are penalties behind the issues that she does. I’m saying, how will you punish her for having an accident? I requested if she would make her daughter try this, and he or she stated she would.
Gilpin’s lawyer, John McClendon, stated his shopper maintains her innocence and the kid’s mom has grossly misrepresented what occurred that day:
This isn’t a baby that was sick. This was a baby that was participating in dangerous conduct. It wasn’t rather a lot to wash up and he or she was given the correct wipes and he or she cleaned it up and that was the tip of it.
Discussing the arrest, he stated of Gilpin:
It has devastated her. She’s a rockstar instructor. My cellphone has been ringing off the hook with help. 300 confirmed up in help for her final night time. She’s devastated and upset about this.
Lawyer Ron Haley, representing the household, responded:
What I can say to those that suppose that is fabricated, do you suppose the Zachary Police Division after doing an in depth investigation goes to go so far as to get a felony warrant if that is based mostly off of gross misrepresentations? I can let you know that it’s not. That is accomplished based mostly on interviews, surveillance footage. This isn’t simply taking a mom’s phrase or a baby’s phrase for this and operating amuck. That’s not what occurred right here.
Eugene Collins, the previous President of the Baton Rouge NAACP stated he obtained concerned after the mom acquired resistance from the group:
This was incorrect to do to a baby. Now we’re taking a look at fees – a felony warrant filed. This instructor turned herself in and this division investigated and arrested a high-level administrator at a faculty system within the deep south. If that’s not sufficient for you, you don’t need to see the correct facet of this.
Gilpin’s lawyer confirmed that regardless of her arrest for a felony cost, the college system has not positioned her on go away and he or she stays employed, working at one other facility.
Mentioned Haley:
If this was an grownup working at a nursing house, and was arrested for cruelty to the infirm, would the most effective job be to go work at one other nursing house? If this was an individual working at financial institution charged with financial institution fraud, is it acceptable to have that individual moved from one department to a different department? That is ridiculous.
Right here follows a WAFB-TV report on the incident:
